That is one way to teach a driver a really expensive lesson
A firefighters decision to smash a car’s window to get to a fire hydrant has divided social media users who question whether it was necessary.
Probably nothing more annoying than to come back to see your car windows smashed.
But you might take some comfort in knowing it was an emergency….or you could just get really mad at the entire situation, I know I would to be honest.
But whether it was necessary or not has sparked an argument on social media.
FDNY Response Videos shared a video back on June 20 of Firefighters dealing with a fire that broke out on 3045 3rd Avenue in the Bronx.
People thought smashing the windows was pretty unnecessary.(FDNY Response Videos)
In the clip, a firefighters breaks the car’s windows in order to allow access to the fire hydrant, even passing the hose through the car, connecting it to the truck in the middle.
It is important to note that according to New York City Department of Transportation website, the car was parked illegally.
The website reads: “It is illegal to park within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant, including on floating parking lanes (next to protected bike lanes).”
However people on Reddit weren’t quite convinced smashing the window was necessary.
“Wtf? At first i was like yeah f*** that guy for parking in front of the hydrant but this is ridiculous, they had plenty of room,” one user wrote.
“That was wholly unnecessary and that hose could’ve gone over the hood or over the top of the car. Instead it’s kinked up passing through the car and hitting all that shattered glass. This seems more like a temper tantrum from the fire fighter,” another added.
Some users did find the situation funny, thinking of the owner returning mid-fire to his car.(FDNY Response Videos)
“No one can convince me this was necessary lol,” a third wrote.
“I dont get it, it seems like it could have easily been avoided and would be less work for the firemen as well,” commented another.
While many did condemn the firefighter for his action, some did argue the firefighter did a good job.
“I am a German firefighter. At 7:00 p.m. this I never saw in Germany. The NY Firefighter, he destroys the window on both sides. Very good job.” one person commented.
“That’s why you don’t park near the fire hydrant,” commented another.
“Never park/block a hydrant.. FDNY will destroy your car,” wrote a third.
What do you think? Perfectly reasonable response from the firefighter or overly dramatic.
