Tanya Stamos just wanted to get to Houston. Instead, her United Airlines flight ended up diverted to New Mexico because of a medical emergency on board, and what followed was seven hours stranded at a gate with nothing to do.

That’s where the pilot decided not to act like a pilot. He called a local pizzeria, ordered 30 pizzas, and had them delivered straight to the airport. Then he stood in front of the boxes and started serving slices, one by one, to the 150 passengers holding paper plates. He ate last, when no one was left without their share.
Stamos told the whole story on TikTok the next day, and the photos —the pilot handing out pizza in his uniform— became the detail no one forgot about that trip. United Airlines confirmed the diversion was due to the medical incident and praised the gesture. For the passengers, it was clear that day that the best service didn’t come from the airline, but from the cockpit.
