He lost both arms in an accident and 23 years later received a historic transplant that allowed him to hug his family again

He lost both arms in an electrical accident that changed his life forever. 😢

For 23 years, Guðmundur Felix Grétarsson lived without being able to hug his family with his own arms. Everything changed in 2021, when a medical team in France performed a historic procedure: the world’s first double arm-and-shoulder transplant.

The operation was only the beginning. Months and years of rehabilitation followed as he gradually regained sensation and movement in the transplanted limbs.

Over time, he managed to raise his arms again and hug his daughters and grandchildren, something he had not been able to do since the accident. 🥹❤️ More than a medical milestone, his story became an example of how far reconstructive medicine can go to restore gestures as simple and human as a hug.
