After 11 years of searching, Interpol Tirana, in cooperation with British partners, has been able to arrest an Albanian citizen wanted for drug trafficking in Kosovo in England. According to documents from the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Top Channel has announced that the person arrested for extradition purposes is Gëzim Çela, 37 years old.
It is further learned that the higher court has been informed that the Albanian authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for Çela, as he is accused of being involved in a criminal collaboration with Fran Merdhocin, Alfred Mikelin, Arif Çela and Victor Lekgegaj on October 15, 2015, for trafficking 49 kilograms of cannabis to Kosovo.
Gëzim Çela will appear at the next extradition hearing on June 4, 2026, at 10:00.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Foreign Relations, located in the Ministry of Justice in Tirana, has a 40-day deadline to send the relevant file along with a guarantee signed by the Minister of Justice Toni Gogu, which ensures that Çela will have the right to a retrial after being convicted in absentia.
Based on what the British court says, he cannot follow the extradition procedures on parole, since the criminal offense he is accused of is serious.
