Reddit user u/Rpark888 shared on r/MadeMeSmile that last week his 7-year-old son sneaked into his office and took one of the photographs he had on the wall. When he asked him what he wanted it for, the boy would not tell him.
Days later, during check-in for his STEM camp, the little boy ran back to his dad and handed him a project he had made. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

At first, the father looked at the work and thought that perhaps his son had made a mistake. But the boy told him he had to hold it up to the light. Then he understood.
He had turned that photograph into a lithophane, a 3D-printed piece that reveals an image when illuminated from behind. The father himself admitted that he was completely amazed by the details and ended up getting emotional when he realized what his son had done.

And there was one detail that moved him even more: the boy could have chosen any photograph, but he picked one from their family trip to New York during that year’s spring break.
The post quickly received comments from other users who were delighted by the gesture. One told him that his son was “awesome” and that he was doing a great job as a father. Another wrote that it was a moment that deserved to become a lifelong memory. Several simply confessed that the story had moved them to tears.
For his part, the father said that he enjoys encouraging his son’s different interests, including chess and STEM camps, but also soccer: he is his coach himself.

And perhaps that is why the gift ended up meaning so much. It was not just a science project: it was a family photograph turned by a 7-year-old boy into a gift for his dad. ❤️
