Tim Curry died at the age of 80 on Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles. The man who was Dr. Frank-N-Furter is gone—the one who frightened entire generations as Pennywise in “It”, the actor who filled theaters from London to Broadway.
But before all that, there was a mother who didn’t know how to feel about such fame.
Patricia Curry, a school secretary, saw her son in the musical “Hair” and hid, ashamed, at the back of the theater box throughout the entire performance. Years later, when Rocky Horror turned him into a cult icon, she confessed her true fear to him: she didn’t want so much attention to make him lose touch with reality.
Curry had been dealing with health problems for more than a decade, including a stroke in 2012. He passed away as one of the greats, although to his mother, he was always her son first. 🎬
